Description

This plant has been cultivated outdoors at Wayoen for over 30 years, and was potted approximately three years ago. The meticulous care taken over a long period to cultivate its vigor and branching characteristics has culminated in its receipt of the Modern Publishing Award at this year's Satsuki Exhibition. Receiving this recognition so soon after being potted suggests even greater potential for improvement in future final cultivation.

Provenance

1970年（昭和45年）: 光琳の品種登録直後、親木からの挿し芽による一番子を初代園主・和氣洋助が購入。品種として確立されたばかりの貴重な血統を和洋園に迎える。当時の苗木は手のひらに収まる程の小ささであったが、洋助はその将来性を見抜いていた。
1970年代〜2000年代: 以来50年余にわたり、露地での長期培養を継続。光琳本来の花芸と樹性を最大限に引き出すべく、地植えでの根張り充実と幹肥大に専念する。二代目・正男の時代を通じても一貫した方針が保たれ、焦ることなく時間をかけた作り込みが重ねられる。
2021年頃（令和3年）: 三代目・和氣佳洋により、ついに鉢上げの時を迎える。半世紀に及ぶ露地培養により充実した根張りと幹の充実を得て、完成樹への仕上げ段階に移行する。
2024年（令和6年）: 第37回皐樹展において近代出版賞を受賞。鉢に上げて間もない段階でこの評価を得たことは、今後の仕上げ培養における一層の伸び代を予見させる成果となる。

さつき盆栽は、季節ごとの手入れの「タイミング」で、樹姿と花の品格が大きく変わります。特に重要なのは、剪定の時期です。さつきは一般に夏（6〜7月頃）に翌年の花芽を形成するため、剪定は「花後できるだけ早く（主に6月）」に行うのが基本です。

和洋園の「預かりサービス」では、単に枯らさないための維持ではなく、花後剪定→夏の花芽形成→秋冬の樹勢維持という、さつきのサイクルに合わせて年間管理を組み立てます。到達したい姿を踏まえて、適期の作業を積み重ねていくのが特徴です。

年間管理スケジュール

春（芽動き〜開花）

芽出し管理（芽の整理・樹勢と枝数のバランス調整）
水管理（用土の状態に応じて調整）
病害虫対策（発生状況に応じて予防・対処）
植え替え（必要時：樹勢・用土状態を見て適期に実施）

初夏（開花後〜6月）

花がら摘み（結実を防ぎ、樹勢低下を避ける）
剪定（花後できるだけ早く実施）
